Licensing Your Trailer

Trailer licensing and registration rules vary by province and state in Canada and the U.S. Always confirm local requirements before towing your trailer.

Licensing Your Trailer in Canada

When you purchase your trailer in Canada, you will receive:
  • A New Vehicle Information Statement (NVIS) that must be signed by the retailer;
  • An owner’s manual;
  • A warranty card; and
  • A bill of sale provided by the retailer.

Trailer registration requirements and fees vary by province, so we recommend contacting your local Ministry of Transportation (MOT) for specific guidance. In most cases, registering a trailer requires presenting your New Vehicle Information Statement (NVIS) and bill of sale.
